Overview: Bringing technology into the classroom is essential in this increasingly digital age, but I know from experience that this can be very daunting for educators who might not even know where or how to get started. This checklist interaction is part of my prototype Integrating Google Slides course. The course introduces Google Slides as a free and flexible instructional tool, along with strategies for integrating into lessons using a fully digital or hybrid approach.

Purpose: The purpose of this checklist interaction is to show learners the many different options that exist when it comes to Google Slides resources that might be great additions to their lessons. The target learners are teachers who might not be familiar with the use of Google Slides beyond its standard capabilities as a slideshow and presentation tool. Here, learners select the types of Google Slides resources they’re interested in. Each choice pulls up an example of that type of resource on the right side of the screen.

Process: The first step in designing this tool was reviewing my needs analysis so that I could decide which features and which types of Google Slides resources would be of the greatest value and interest to my target audience. After reviewing, I narrowed teachers’ requests to a list of six categories I could introduce: self-checking quizzes, interactive word games, digital reflection journals, organization tools, matching and sorting games, and virtual field trips.

Next, I selected Google Slides resources which fit within these categories. I prioritized choosing activities which could showcase Google Slides as a tool that works across a variety of subjects and grade levels. The goal was for the learner to find at least one type of activity they’d be interested in bringing into their classroom, demonstrating the program’s value and diverse uses. Once the examples were chosen, I created graphics according to the established style guide for this course, then programmed the interaction within Storyline 360.
